‘Chasing Dragons’ by Lupen Crook

Catalytic Clothing seeks to explore how clothing and textiles can be used as a catalytic surface to purify air, employing existing technology in a new way. It is the brainchild of artist / designer Helen Storey and chemist Tony Ryan – people from very different worlds whose minds have come together over recent years in highly successful art/science collaborations.

FIELD OF JEANS is showning now in the Rootstein Hopkins Parade Ground at Chelsea College of Art & Design, London till 6pm Wednesday 21st September as part of the London Design Festival and the Icon Design Trail.

“The term Strata defines a geological formation made of multiple layers of rock. Each one of these layers has its own individual characteristics and history, which combined produce beautiful and unique formations…
The Strata project consist in a series of films, prints and installations investigating improbable relationships between contemporary digital aesthetics and icons of classical art and architecture. Like in geological processes, layers belonging to different ages interact with one another producing new intriguing formations.”

Peak Boil is a electrical socket that prevents a kettle being turned on when the National Grid is under strain. The bar chart indicates the country’s total demand and enables the socket only in times of capacity, as indicated by caniturniton.com. This controls a wireless socket that enables and disables the kettle.

All is already in existence, design should be inspired by society’s needs, consider our behaviour and aspire to balance between the two.

Another project by same designer that caught my eye and liking -
Many Hands Make Light Work >> the canvas of the bulb only lights when all the hands are covered, flickering as more hands are added.

Will always be a sucker for simple and playful interactions as they usually work! There’s great power in connecting individuals to complete a simple task together.
